PAUH PUTRA Sept. 21 - Maybe one day your food order will be sent by a drone and not the food carrier as it is now.

It sounds awkward but that's not possible given the drone technology that is growing today.

Currently, McDonald's Malaysia's leading fast food chain is showing interest in the use of the technology.

This is evident when McDonald's is one of the main sponsors of the University Robotics Competition: The Championship of 2019 (Urock 2019).

According to the Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) of the University of Perlis Malaysia (Unimap), Prof. Ir. No. Dr. Rezuwan Kamaruddin, a food delivery competition using drones, has received encouraging response from Urock, which has been running since 2010.

"Last year, 11 teams from seven HEIs participated in the competition but this time the participation increased to 16 teams from nine HEIs.

"This year's challenge is for drones to carry and deliver 'Happy Meal McDonald's' boxes with some obstacles that require high flying skills.

"This food box should be delivered with two main requirements, namely fastest to maintain quality and freshness and must remain unbroken," he said when addressing the closing of the Urock 2019 competition at the Unimap Permanent Campus here today.

Also present were McDonald's Malaysia Consultant Datuk Mohamed Nasir Rakhir and Bank Rakyat General Manager, Norashikin Shaharudin.

Organized by Urim by Unimap in collaboration with Bank Rakyat and McDonalds Foundation, it aims to be a field of partnerships and robotics technology between universities (HEIs).

In contrast to other robotic competitions, Urock participants are required to present the use of robot technology developed so that everyone can benefit from it.

During this time, 50 teams from 15 HEIs competed in three categories namely 'drone', 'legged' and 'cooperative'. – UTUSAN ONLINE

ARAU Sept. 20 - The Student Food Bank program which has benefited the low-income students (B40) will be expanded to private higher education institutions (IPTS), the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) and polytechnics starting next year.
