Arau - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) provided an allocation of RM1.18 million to assist students in the B40 category through the launch of the UniMAP Special Interest Incentive which was broadcast live via UniMAP's official Facebook page today.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ir. No. Dr. R Badlishah Ahmad said the assistance was part of UniMAP's ongoing commitment to helping students, especially during the Post-COVID-19 period, to enable them to go through the process of teaching and learning better.

“Under this provision, seven small incentives have been detailed to suit the needs of the students as a whole. UniMAP is hopeful that the launch of this incentive will at least give students a sense of motivation for managing their finances and teaching facilities.

"The Student Development and Services Center (P3P) will identify the students involved and further details regarding assistance will be announced over time," he said.

KANGAR, June 24: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is the first to place itself in the THE Young University Rankings 2020 chart released by Times Higher Education (THE) today. UniMAP ranks among the top 151-200 universities in the world under 50 along with two other universities, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and National University of Malaysia (UKM).

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ir. No. Dr. R Badlishah Ahmad, said the achievement was a boon for an 18-year-old university with about 15,000 students. According to him, the assessment uses the same data as THE World University Rankings announced last year but with different weights to fit the category of young universities. “The indicators remain the same in terms of Education by 30 per cent, Research (30 per cent), Percentage (30 per cent), Internationalization (7.5 per cent) and Industry Generation by 2.5 per cent. "The rating system is not the most important factor that is a benchmark for UniMAP's performance and position compared to other public universities, but it can indirectly help universities to address existing deficiencies in light of the guidelines that are evaluated by THE," he said in a statement here today. .

Apart from UniMAP, UKM and UPM are also listed as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Petronas University of Technology (UTP) and Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) which is in the 101-150 group; Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is 201-250 and Universiti Tenaga Nasional is in the 251-300 group. Three other universities - Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Multimedia University (MMU) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) are also listed and ranked among the top 351-400 universities.

Commenting further, Prof. R Badlishah said the achievement was not a ticket for UniMAP to be satisfied with the existing achievements but various new initiatives needed to be developed to further enhance UniMAP's reputation among the strategic industry and international partners. “UniMAP cannot be satisfied with this achievement. This data will be evaluated from time to time, so it is important for UniMAP to continue to improve in all aspects of assessment as each evaluation represents a major focus of a university. "Therefore, it is important for us to ensure that the core remains at the best level and benefits the key stakeholders," he said.
